A favorite online retailer is one I'd never buy from, targeting a country I don't live in, for products I don't own.-gct - deckeda - 09-13-2020 I like the "idea" of a motorcycle but have never owned one. (I've ridden a couple, however.) https://fortnine.ca/en/ What could make them "a favorite?" This retailer of accessories has a brilliant, fantastic YT channel related to the hobby: https://www.youtube.com/c/FortNine/ The presenter is part nerd, part erudite professor, part humorist, you get the idea. The screenplay and production is superb, like I'd-pay-for-Youtube-Premium level of greatness (assuring you are at all interested in the content topics of course.) Re: A favorite online retailer is one I'd never buy from, targeting a country I don't live in, for products I don't own. - wurm - 09-13-2020 As a rider, I can tell you that yes, FortNine and the host Ryan is everything you say. As they say around these parts, he's a smahhhht bastid. Re: A favorite online retailer is one I'd never buy from, targeting a country I don't live in, for products I don't own. - Filliam H. Muffman - 09-13-2020 He is a very good host. Good memorable retailer name once you know the story (Forty Nin(e)th Parallel). I have been looking for a new helmet since my current one has over a 12 year old certification. Adjusting prices from "CAD" (CanuckistAnian Ducats ;-) ) should give a decent reference for what is a good value. I actually need two new helmets since automotive sporting certification has forked from motorcycle certification. The production values are incredible. Some are fairly simple and straight forward while others have has a considerable budget to produce. He's very entertaining but misses the mark from time to time. Even when he does, he's still entertaining. His review of the Russian Ural, with its signature sidecar and quirky mechanicals, is impressive and probably my favorite even though I have no desire to own or even ride one. But FortNine is a relatively small operation and I don’t think he (Ryan Kluftinger) and his cameraman/editor (Aneesh Shivanekar) have much of a budget for any of their work. They’re just (a) in a picturesque location to begin with, and (b) make the most of some nearby road trips. The rest is their mad, mad planning and post-production skills. They do seem to have some nicer equipment given what I have just seen, which is a fixed cost, but to say nothing of the shooting and editing, which is very slick. That is the only reason I ride. I never needed to cut fuel costs or to choose a bike over a car. It was always and is about the movement on two wheels through space, and often time. Nothing gives be greater pleasure then a pleasant ride away from the slab. Ride is the drug and I need to score. There will be a day when I can no longer ride, and that will be sad. In the meantime, I have memories to make, while I can still entertain them. i cannot believe how stupid i was when i was younger. Most riders have been there on many levels but not all fully appreciate it. This is most likely why I felt the superior production values were the result of a bigger budget, not that I felt there was a large film crew, but that the production as a whole, was indeed very slick. |
