Hurricane Sally update - PeterB - 09-13-2020
... local news is reporting that it really will likely make landfall as a mid-range Cat 1 ... good news because there was a possibility it might make it to Cat 2, but it doesn't have enough time to strengthen now. Also, they're suggesting a good possibility that it'll veer a little more to the east of us, which is good news for us (NOLA) but not so much for places like Mobile. We're still likely to get a ton of rain dumped on us, so the street flooding is likely to be significant, since it's apparently slow moving even though not super-powerful (starting to remind me a bit of Hurricane Isaac that hit us awhile back... power out for days, and days and days of driving rain).

Right, you see from that graphic that it has very little time to strengthen before it makes landfall. They're saying (for us) 80-90 mph winds, likely 3-10" rainfall, depending on how far east it goes. Early AM update: as of 1AM this morning, wind speeds still only at 60mph and indeed it has shifted slightly east, so major impacts are likely to be S Mississippi and Alabama. This is a very slow-moving storm. More and more, it's reminding me of Isaac ... he stayed over us for days and just wouldn't seem to go away... dumping a ton of water on us and causing us all to lose power in the process.
Edit: current rainfall projections (should auto-update):
... looks like 4-6" for us, which will definitely cause street flooding, but otherwise isn't too bad ... but parts of Mississippi/Alabama could see 20+ !!

Streaming info via WWL-TV (link); latest track jogs it a little further east. Bad for MS/AL, good for LA. Still going to get a big storm surge and a lot of rain -- and, of course, the track could shift west again.

... and it's now up to Cat 2. NOT good for us if it goes more westerly. This one can't seem to decide what she wants to do...
