My humble guitar pick collection - hal - 02-12-2021 For a short while, I tried to get guitar picks from fav musicians when playing small venues. I should have thought to do this earlier in life because all of a sudden, seeing top class musicians in tiny venues became very rare. From left to right, that's Dave Grisman, Steve Hackett and Steve Morse. Grisman's came from a barn-like venue in Davis, Ca in 1982? I think it was called 'The Barn'. The Fender MED Teardrop is from Steve Hackett at the Roxy in LA 10/15/80 (one of my favorite all-time shows and I'm thrilled to have this bit of memorabilia from it). The Steve Morse pick was from an unannounced Dixie Dregs show at the Oasis Ballroom (dive in Sacramento) 1982(?). Sometimes bands would set up a quick Sacramento show before or after the scheduled Bay Area show. I only heard about this one because my dad was eating dinner at the restaurant across the street and the Dregs were in there. He calls me and says something like, 'Hey that band you like.. the Dixie something is playing tonight'. I found that very hard to believe, but I called verified it. Another favorite show - this was when Mark O'Conner was with the band - they were insanely good. I probably saw them the next night in the bay area, but I don't remember. I also have one or two picks from Allan Holdsworth. I saw him twice during this period at the diviest of dives and surely would have remembered to get a pick, but I can't remember which one it might be or if I still have it... Re: My humble guitar pick collection - Will Collier - 02-12-2021 This my only "famous" pick. But it'll do. ![]() Edit: I take it back. I have a bunch of these (thanks Rick): ![]() Re: My humble guitar pick collection - Will Collier - 02-12-2021 I didn't think Morse gave out picks. I remember an interview about his time in the Dixie Dregs when he said he basically always played with the same nylon pick and never tossed it to anybody, he just stuck it under the bridge until the next time he picked up his guitar. To put it another way: that's cool. Re: My humble guitar pick collection - JoeM - 02-12-2021 Those are all very cool! I don't have a a single one from a famous player, however I did get to play with Pat Martino's M'ind agate pick when I used to study with him in the 70's. It was a thick hunk of stone. I just realized that I have a David Gilmour pick that was included in the Rattle That Lock collection. I've been saving it in the little plastic bag it came in. Here it is: ![]() The one on the right is a normal size from back in the 70's when I used to write for the magazine and the one on the left is what I've used since the early 70's. Thanks for reminding me! Re: My humble guitar pick collection - TheCaber - 02-12-2021 Did anyone get The Pick of Destiny ? Those agate picks that he used were like a big deal in the 70's and very expensive. I think like $25 a piece. I got... - RAMd®d - 02-12-2021 ...a set of ![]() comin' on the 17th. |
