Good news! S/O's Mini is now much snappier with 2GB ram and a 320GB miniStack - GeneL - 01-09-2007

I'm happy to report that there never was a problem with the User folder as I originally thought.

When I imported 5600+ picture files from an external drive they apparently went astray and ended up in the User folder. The sheer size of the download obscured the "normal" contents until I slowly examined the User folder once again. I then discovered that I actually had all of the expected interior folders, i.e. Desktop, Applications, Documents, iPhoto Library, Library, Public etc.

I created a new "Pictures" folder and manually dragged all of the 5600+ picture files into it and now everything seems back to normal.

A few days ago a package came from OWC containing a 320GB Newertech miniStack and 2GB of ram for the Mini.

I immediately hooked up the miniStack and cloned the mini's drive onto it. It was instantly bootable. Beautiful!

Today I had the ram installed and rushed home to try it out. Booted to the miniStack and running 2GB of ram it seems much snappier and my S/O is a happy lady.

Thanks again to everyone who posted to my previous topic about my Mini's problems. At least there's now a happy ending.

GeneL

which mini is it? Was it single 2GB stick?

OWC configurator actually shows a 2-stick option for the Mini 1.5 Ghz that I have, but there is only one slot as far as I know, so I am not sure why the configurator is wrong.

SteveJobs - all the Intel Mac minis have 2 memory slots.

1.66 gHz Core Duo with two slots. It was 2 X 1GB.

Too bad it only takes a 2.5 inch drive or I would have added a HD upgrade as well.

Since, I have it set up as booting from the 320GB (actually shows about 290GB?) external FW drive, I'm wondering about the best strategy for backing up to the 80GB internal drive.

Suggestions?

SteveJobs, FYI I don't have a 1.5 mini, it's a 1.66
