In any web browser, there is the option to set a default download location, but I am looking for an efficiency enhancement that would allow me to have a different location for each of 2-3 separate tabs.
The reasoning is that I tend to work on multiple projects at the same time that require me to download files from separate locations and I need to keep them separate. The current workflow is to have the browser ask for where to save each file, and then I have a shortcut to each location in the Favorites.
It would be faster if I could set a tab to download automatically to those locations. Any idea if that is possible? Browser extension maybe? I had tried some time ago downloading everything to a sorting folder, and then setup a Finder action relocate files saved there based on their file names, but it was unreliable and I wound up going back to my current process.

The best I can suggest is to use different browsers for the different groups of tabs. That can get you exactly what you want, but may handicap you in other ways.

you can get the app, Default Folder, tell your browser to stop doing auto-download and use DF to easily change the target download folder for each download.

I just gave it a try, but to be clear I was not doing auto-download, and I've already got shortcuts to each destination set in the Favorites column of the download dialogue box, so DF is not really any better than that. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Set default download location on a per tab basis?
That would be awesome, a feature I'd really use.
That would seem tough to develop up, I'd think.
How would it be implemented?
Open a tab, use a keyboard command to click on it and display a list of download sites, and the destination lasts until the tab is closed (no typical O/S dialog)?
Have a download location tied to a bookmark, so there's no need to select a download location each time?

I think that is an even better idea. User can set a download location for any given URL, that way you don't need worry about tabs or setting it up each time!
