I noticed that Apple is heavily advertising iPhone 12's and some carriers are offering good deals and trade-ins on them (according to the ads). Does that mean that an iPhone 13 will be coming out soon???

You'll hear about them in late September, you'll be able to order one (If you're lucky) in October, and you might see one in person sometime in November (If you're really lucky). That's how it's played out the last few years, anyway. With the chip shortage and all of that, who knows? They'll miss the boat, though, if they can't have the pipeline to stores rolling at full speed by December.

We ordered ours online on the first day, got them 3 days later. Been like that for a long time. No lines, no waiting, no nuthin. Order online, delivered in a day or 2.
iPhones always have discounts? We got new ones in November. Trade-in for our XRs was $799 = the exact amount of iPhone 12. We paid $64 in tax and that was it.
Since we are on an "unlimited plan" -- If the 13 is way cooler... we can prob do the same again. Turn in our 12, get a 13 for $64 again. Essentially a new phone for $5 a month.

Still on an iPhone 8 here. It does everything I need it to do. The camera might be a bit long in the tooth though.

Still rocking an iPhone 6s+ here. It does what I need and the original battery keeps going and going, however, I know its days are numbered.
I may have to upgrade to the latest and greatest this Fall. Hopefully, I can get the same milage with the new iron.
Let's hope the new stuff coming will be as bulletproof as my trusty 'ol 6s+
