M1 refurb - Fritz - 07-27-2021 working with a client who is rolling his own Vblog stuff on a 2010 iMac 27". Short stuff, 10 -15 mins. Slow going . I'm helping him with the audio fixes, but it is iMovie 9. I'd prefer to export the audio, edit in ProTools and resync, but that is time consuming on this old boy. Would a 2020 M1 8 core w/8G be able to run whatever is current iMovie without dragging it's feet? Re: M1 refurb - sekker - 07-27-2021 Yes. M1 MBA runs Final Cut Pro great too. Re: M1 refurb - mrbigstuff - 07-27-2021 I'm running Davinci Resolve (free version) in a base Mini M1. It's crazy. Re: M1 refurb - clay - 07-27-2021 I run FCP X with 4k ProRes footage along with Digital Performer 11 for multitrack audio editing on my base model M1 Mac mini (8gb ram, 256 gb storage). I would love something twice as powerful to speed up video encodes, but it handles those tasks quite well all things considered for a $600 machine (refurbed). Roughly equivalent to the hackintosh tower that it replaced that had 32gb RAM, 6 core/12 thread i5 CPU, and dedicated GPU, all for under 50% of the cost (and power consumption) of the hack. I'd be willing to drop up to $3k on a headless Mwhatever when they come out with a faster version of the processor or add more ports or intro a model with even a tiny bit of internal expansion. Re: M1 refurb - jdc - 07-27-2021 base mini is $635 at Adorama (cheaper than a refurb?) and $650 at amazon right now. 1 day delivery for me. Oh, and all M1s pretty much crush on video work. Hundreds or videos on YT that show the performance. Re: M1 refurb - clay - 07-27-2021 Refurb base mini available for $589 (plus tax) from Apple right now. https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/mac Re: M1 refurb - jdc - 07-27-2021 clay wrote: thanks for clarifying... must have been confusing it with the $599 price I paid for the wifes. Re: M1 refurb - Fritz - 07-27-2021 thanks for the input. Figured as much. |
