WASHINGTON (AP) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday issued a new moratorium on evictions that would last until October 3, ending some of the political pressure being placed on President Joe Biden.

The new moratorium could help keep millions in their homes as the coronavirus’ delta variant has spread and states have been slow to release federal rental aid.

The SCOTUS upheld it, but threatened to overturn any extension without an act of Congress.

Their reasoning was rank BS.

Biden told the SCOTUS to sit and spin.

I suspect they expect that unless the court fast tracks it the case will be moot by the time it wends its way through the system.

So Trumpy. But I imagine most who will benefit either didn’t vote at all or voted for Pres. Trump.

I know it won't be popular but I felt the eviction ban should have been lifted as soon as the federal unemployment checks were issued. If a person was still working, then rent should not have been an issue. If they became unemployed, then the $600 per week addition to regular unemployment should have covered rent. That doesn't even take the federal stimulus payments into consideration.

Instead, people stopped paying rent just because they could. The property owners still had to pay a mortgage, tax, insurance, etc. It is hardly fair to them to say they have to provide free accommodations.

As for the judicial review, it won't even have to go to SCOTUS. It will likely get shut down at the federal district court level and the court of appeals will not take it up.

No matter what we do, there will soon be that moment when renters are unprotected. In addition, the American Rescue Plan unemployment extension ends on September 4th. Its going to be painful for many.

Though I'm sure there have been a few "tenants from hell" that have been able to hang in there.
