For the first time ever, my M1 MBA got warmer than ambient air temperature.
During normal light use, it never gets warm to the touch, usually feeling slightly cool even on a warm day.
Just a little while ago, I noticed possible video artifacts.
White areas on the screen were getting slightly blown out, as with overexposed pics.
The blue horizontal stripes in the above MRF logo were brilliant light blue, not at all like any other time, and adjusting the brightness dimmed the screen but didn't achieve an acceptable image..
Then I happened to notice it seemed warm, which was highly unusual.
Picking it up off of the raindesign iLap, it was very, alarmingly warm, maybe a degree or three below hot.
Very disconcerting.
I took it off AC thinking there might be an adapter malfunction.
The battery was down to 90%, which was also unusual, and clicking the icon should ClipGrab to be 'using significant resources' or similar.
But the list that dropdown showed didn't show ClipGrab among the apps using battery.
Checking activity monitor, it showed FFmeg using 70% CPU with nothing else coming anywhere near that, single digits at most.
I killed it and then remembered watching the 'realistic' motorcycle video in another thread, which was 4K/60 HDR, and simultaneously downloading the vid via ClipGrab.
Shutting down the M1 and restarting cleared ClipGrab from the Battery icon menu, and the color of the logo and blown out whites returned to normal as the M1 cooled.
Had the happened on my 2012 MB, I wouldn't have thought twice, well except for the extreme warmth, as it got somewhat warm all the time.
On the M1, any perceived heat would have been an anomaly.
I'll play the video and see if that cranks up the heat.
VLC is my player of choice, but it plays in QT, and that may run cooler.
Tragedy — averted.

Sounds like a simple app crash, it happens.
101 times out of 100 a restart fixes it =)

ya break the space-time continuum. =)
When an app crashes on normal macs, the fan spins wild, since no fans, overheat.
It is a little troubling the effects with the screen blotches and what not. My kids have MBAs, no crashes like that were reported... although they have heard me say "restart fixes everything" for their whole life, so they prob restarted and just didn't tell me...

I've only had my M1 MBA get noticeably warm once, when I was running it with the CPUs/GPUs full blast doing something (probably photo processing).
I always have Activity Monitor as a startup item with the CPU usage window in the lower right corner of the screen. I've done that on all my machine, basically since I started using OS X. So I always know when something spikes the CPU.

I Shutdown and started rather than a Restart, because though 99 times out of 100 a simple Restart gets things sorted, there's that one time it doesn't, as evidenced by a members's recent post.
Of course, he only Restarted a few times, not 99, so there's that.
A Shutdown and Start takes all of maybe 10s longer than a Restart.
