No flipping F150 Lightnings - Ombligo - 01-08-2022

Ford is telling dealers to add a provision to sales contracts that prohibit someone from selling their F150 Lightning pickup for one year from delivery.

Ford provided language to dealers that explicitly requires the buyer to agree not to sell, offer to sell, or transfer any ownership interest in the Lightning within one year of purchase. If the buyer sells the vehicle within one year, they may face court action that includes blocking the transfer of the car title.

The automaker has reservations for more than 200,000 of its full-size EV truck. Ford has seen buyers of the popular Bronco immediately reselling it for a $10,000 profit.

Seems like a reasonable way to keep the scalpers at bay. They'll probably find a way around it though.

No kidding. This is where Tesla wins the day: no dealer BS. Of course, other issues with that model, but for this BS, it's a clear winner.

That's an antitrust violation on its face.

So if you buy it, get into an accident in the first year and total it and the insurance needs you to sign over the title for the payoff, you can't do that?

I also wonder how they can even be aware of or possibly stop a title transfer if you own the property outright. Are they assuming that everyone is financing it through them, and they're on the title?

You are citing facts not in evidence. I expect that Ford's lawyers will have run through these scenarios and have taken care of them in the purchase agreement language. They're probably not dumbasses.

They already did this with the GT 40 a 5 years ago, there was a big bru haha when John Cena tried to sell his.

This smells like a PR stunt. I have an old friend who runs a Ford dealership, he's had very few takers for the EV truck, but Big Ford keeps pressuring him to take more of them. He'd much rather get more of the regular old Dead Dinosaur Juice F-150.

This surprises me.
