idiot local medical paperwork - lost in space - 02-24-2022

Fritz's post came up while I'm dealing with a similar issue with two healthcare providers sharing medical information across the state. They STILL USE FAXES! That means of course, they get a FAX, then scan it to store digitally. Problem comes with the low resolution on both FAX machines, made worse by a low-res scanner. They sent me the result, and it is COMPLETELY illegible. When will these people join the 21st century. Even the 90s would be an improvement.

Rant over

Changing human behavior is hard.

Also they probably have some decrepit lawyer who thinks that the fax is legally admissible but a digitized, reprinted and copied instance of the same communication is not.

It has to do w HIPPA. If you don’t have a very expensive EMR w portal patient access, you need to rely on point to point (ie fax) as you cannot intercept the signal like internet, man in the middle network problems.

Just this week I saw a specialist who immediately complained about electronic records. He said too many doctors just use a pull-down menu to list their findings. He said it was very shallow and only minimally useful.

And no human could possibly just pick up a piece of paper off a machine.

fax, heh, heh, heh.
my chiro submitted by fax (as EBCBS requires).
After 2 weeks they still hadn't "received" it.
WtF?
even with EMR, I've had simple things drag on.

hire the lobotomized, pay them $15/hr and the CEOs $30M.
that's how Northwell Hellth does it.

B.S. Faxes transmit all their data in the clear, no encryption over a phone line that can be physically or virtually wiretapped anywhere along the route. Unless you are in the middle of nowhere, only the last mile of a phone call is still on coppper analog lines. Once your call hits the CO it is converted and sent via a network.

let's not confuse facts with reality.
the local gummint is staffed with smurfs.

as it turns out, NYS does have the fill-in forms on-line, but you can't submit from there. Still have to print and mail or snail 'em in.
