batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - NewtonMP2100 - 03-02-2022 .....the are 'experimenting' with 'variable pricing'......so the tickets for 'The Batman' will be higher than other movies at the same theater....so they will probably charge more for 'blockbuster' movies.... .....at one of the AMC theaters in NY it will be $1 more.....but no word on how much more the price increase will actually be, it may vary by area..... AMC is charging more for 'The Batman' tickets as it tests out a new pricing model AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron said the movie theater chain is testing out variable pricing in the U.S. That means newly released films could cost more than other films playing in the same theaters at the same time. The first film to test this new pricing model is Warner Bros.' "The Batman." It is unclear how much more tickets will cost for new blockbuster releases. ....Your ticket to see Warner Bros.' "The Batman" could cost more if you book with AMC. On Tuesday, the company's CEO, Adam Aron, said the movie theater chain was testing out variable pricing in the U.S. That means new releases could cost more than other films playing in the same theaters at the same time. It is unclear how much more tickets will cost for new movies. AMC did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. AMC had previously successfully raised weekend prices above midweek prices and is following a playbook it has utilized internationally for years, Aron said Tuesday. "This is all quite novel in the United States, but actually AMC has been doing it for years in our European theaters," he said during an earnings call. "Indeed, in Europe, we charge a premium for the best seats in the house, as do just about all of the sellers of tickets in other industries." Aron said AMC has been a "bolder thinker" when it comes to cinema ticket pricing and is willing to take a risk in trying this new pricing concept. "The Batman" hits theaters Friday. The film is expected to gross at least $80 million during its opening weekend in North America...... what price.......fame......?! Re: batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - Will Collier - 03-02-2022 I honestly thought they'd been doing that already. Although I know what I'd pay for a ticket to a 3-hour Batman movie starring some dweeb from Twilight, and it's, shall we say, less than $1... Re: batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - pRICE cUBE - 03-02-2022 I am slowly becoming a hermit. Would rather wait to watch movies are home with all the drinks and snacks I want. The public is overrated. I really like going to movies (still), but the prices these days at everything except a couple of discount theaters around here are ridiculous. If I'm going to pay upwards of $20 for a a movie (for ONE ticket!), I'd better get a copy to take home with me. Re: batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - Bill in NC - 03-02-2022 so buy a ticket for a cheaper movie, go into that theatre, wait a few minutes, then cross the deserted hallway to the theatre playing batman. Re: batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - Gareth - 03-02-2022 Bill in NC wrote: At least around here, with so many theaters doing assigned seating, that wouldn't necessarily work anymore (although if you go sit in the back edge or somewhere undesirable, it'd probably be fine and you could move after the movie starts). I could also see theaters separating the screening rooms by price, i.e. down one hall are the new releases and another are the older or non-blockbusters and they do separate ticket checks (if the theater layout allows for this). Though I've often wondered with assigned seating, how long it will be until theaters start charging more for desirable seats, just like airlines are doing. Re: batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - NewtonMP2100 - 03-02-2022 .....they will probably have 'security' for the higher priced theaters.....some theaters have the more expensive IMAX, etc on the same floor and they will check tickets for the theaters with the higher priced ones...... ....some theaters also have removed the movie name from the individual theaters......they will just name them and the ticket will have the theater name, so you can't tell which theater is playing which movie without your ticket..... AGREED :boink: Re: batastrophe?!....starting with 'the Batman', AMC ticket prices changing.... - d4 - 03-02-2022 Last movie I saw in theatres was Rise of Skywalker right before the pandemic hit my area. Over 2 years ago. Geez time flies. My local 10-screen movie theatre had: 6-8 self serve ticket kiosks in the lobby. 1 person selling tickets. 1 person serving popcorn and working the register. 1 person with a broom. If someone wanted to be a dk they could just walk in, watch movies for free and leave. No one would notice/care. |
