Why do Safari extensions suck? - bazookaman - 05-25-2022
I installed 1 Password. I clicked install in Safari. It does. Ooops. No, it didn't. I need to run some terminal command to get it to install. Same thing with raindrop.io, my bookmark manager. Same thing with Wappalyzer. Etc and so on. These are actual plugins that I download from the Safari Extensions "store". Not some weirdo hacked versions downloaded from the dark web. But if I actually get them to install, they eventually just disappear. Yesterday they were there. Now they aren't. This happens over and over and over.

Often depends on the version of Safari you are running. Older versions are not supported nearly as well as recent versions, if at all.

I install extensions to Firefox for the few websites that I need them for (typically downloading YouTube videos). Safari is truly terrible for extensions but I presume more secure.

can you post those terminal commands? Do you need to type in the user password?I suspect it has to do with macOS security which is pretty strict.

Latest version of Safari.
This is the terminal command...that I've saved in Notes b/c I have to use it so often.
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -f -R /Applications/Safari.app
