Best, Quickest way to get those Live Photos to Still Single Image - Microman - 05-28-2022

I am going thru and trying to clean up various off loads of photos from iPhones in the family. This time I am running into a lot of those 2-3 second Live Photos. How can I keep the picture without the 2 to 3 second video. I suppose I have to go thru each and stop at an area that I like and then do some sort of export. But as of yet haven't found it.

I made an Automator workflow app that sits on my desktop. I can just drag the HEIC files of a live video and drop on the automation to convert to a JPG. I'm guessing it uses the first frame. The same automation also works for other file types.

There's only 2 steps for the automation:

Get Selected Finder Items
Change Type of Images (JPEG)

I just shut off the "Live Photo" as default. It will be easier to activate Live Photo the VERY few times I'd want to use it.

you can edit the photo to eliminate live photo right within photos. just click on the live photo symbol during editing.

Photos app calls Key Photo the static image that is presented. To change it, hit edit and go the the bulls eye icon, select from the footage, and select Make a key Photo. You can make the video shorter here if you like.
You could click the Live Photo rectangle on top to turn it off, but it would still be available (same size, etc.).
Hit Done when you are.
To flatten it, hit the share icon (rectangle and up arrow) and Duplicate. It will give the option to Duplicate as Still Photo.
Automator or Shortcuts apps could make this automatic I’m sure.
