Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - davemchine - 11-06-2022 I recently purchased a Brother MFC-L3750CDW laser all-in-one printer. I thought it could do duplex scanning but it can only do duplex printing. Huge mistake for me. Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - gadje - 11-06-2022 What's the purpose of this post? did you find the specs misleading and warn others to avoid it? or are you just venting that you didn't do your research? No judging, I am trying to understand how we can help or how to take the post. For the record, I have a MFC-L2740DW and it has duplex scanning, but it's not great. The pages end up tilted a few degree. Very annoying. In other words, if 3750 has the same issues, you didn't miss much. Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - davemchine - 11-06-2022 You are correct on all counts. I'm frustrated at spending $730 and not getting what I consider a standard feature on less expensive printers. I did research the printer specifically for this feature but misunderstood what I read. It can duplex print but not duplex scan. I could always scan into two files and use Preview to create a new document but that's a real time consumer. I poked at a few of the common utilities but none of them could combine and duplex two pdf files. It might be possible from the command line but I couldn't find a straightforward guide. Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - Robert M - 11-06-2022 Dave, IF you want duplex scanning, return this machine. The specs are clear that it doesn't do duplex scanning. If you're going to buy a machine that does duplex scanning, if possible, you want one that does _single-pass_ duplex scanning. That means, it scans both sides of a page simultaneously. Note, this is when scanning via the auto document feeder. Trust me when I say single-pass duplex scanning is a game changer if you scan documents regularly. I wouldn't buy a scanner or all-in-one that lacks the feature. It's that awesome! Truth to say, it's one of the reasons I have a Fujitsu ix1500 at home in addition to an HP Officejet Pro 8600 and an ix1600 at my office in addition to an HP Officejet Pro 9025 (which itself has single-pass duplex scanning). The Fujitsu does it better than the 9025. Robert Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - gadje - 11-06-2022 can you still return it? Also I wonder if you can make an Automator workflow to take odd pages form one file and even pages from the other. Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - Robert M - 11-06-2022 Dave, It's easy enough to combine PDFs in Preview. Open one PDF. Drag and drop the second PDF into the sidebar of the first PDF. Save. Not nearly as convenient but doable until you get a machine that does duplex scanning (single-pass or dual-pass) properly. The 3770 is the model that I've been considering, it's the top of the line of that series and it's the only one that DOES do duplex scanning/copying. https://www.brother-usa.com/products/mfcl3770cdw The other contender from Brother was the MFC-L8900CDW, it's more of a business oriented model, but also does duplex copy/scan. https://www.brother-usa.com/products/mfcl8900cdw Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - gadje - 11-06-2022 Try this, but change Automator to Shuffle instead of Append https://www.orbitsit.co.uk/2013/06/combining-pdfs-using-automator/ Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - gadje - 11-06-2022 Robert M wrote: But in this case you end up with off pages first and then even pages, i.e. a document may look like 1,3,5,2,4,6 I think you need to interleave them, I assume the Automator workflow linked above can do that if adjusted properly Re: Brother MFC-L3750CDW no duplex scanning - Robert M - 11-06-2022 GGD, Lots of other options, too. One issue is that Brother doesn't make it easy to differentiate models that do multi-pass duplex scanning and single-pass duplex scanning. That's annoying! This is an example of one that does single-pass duplex scanning: Robert |
