Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - Mr645 - 02-03-2007 I have 240 scans to do and I have a scanner, Epson Expression 1600. It works over USB but is slow. When connected via SCSI it's over twice as fast. My dual 1.8 G5 Rev A machines won't boot with an Adaptec 2930 or 2906 installed. I can also find a Firewire expension card for the scanner as another option. Thanks, Jon Re: Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - mattkime - 02-03-2007 I don't believe there is such a thing as a cheap G5 SCSI card, sorry. Re: Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - Rain - 02-03-2007 Id get an old SCSI capable G4 and network it to your G5. Re: Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - raz - 02-03-2007 Ratoc (I think) makes a SCSI to Firewire adapter. I've seen some good reviews of it, but YMMV Re: Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - Mr645 - 02-03-2007 I do have a solution, using a Powerbook G4 with Adapted PCMCIA SCSI card that works, but scanning on the laptop was not what I really wanted to do. Oh well. Jon Re: Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - JoeH - 02-03-2007 If you can find one used, Apple/ATTO OEM SCSI cards based on the UL3D are supposed to be usable in the G5. Price runs about $80-90 when they show up. Otherwise, ATTO does have some UL3D's left in stock that they are selling for $184. Current model UL4S will run you $350. That said, some people have reported issues running a narrow SCSI device on a wide SCSI host adapter in OS X. I don't know if that would be a problem in your case. You may have better luck finding a Ratoc Firewire to SCSI adapter. USB to SCSI adapters also exist, but date from a time when they were all USB 1. So you probably would not see any improvement. P.S. How did you get the Adaptec 2930 and 2906 cards to fit? They are 5 V PCI cards, the slots in your G5 should be 3.3 V PCI-X that only take PCI-X or 3.3 V PCI cards. Re: Need cheap SCSI card for G5 PCI - Mr645 - 02-08-2007 P.S. How did you get the Adaptec 2930 and 2906 cards to fit? They are 5 V PCI cards, the slots in your G5 should be 3.3 V PCI-X that only take PCI-X or 3.3 V PCI cards. The 2906 would not fit, but the 2930 card fit in, but the G5 would not start up with it in place. Chimes but got no further. I have a SCSI>FW adapter, but it typically requires the Mac to be shut down and then the converter, the device and the Mac powered up in that order. I have an Adaptec SCSI card that works on my Powerbook G4 that I may use Or look for the ATTO card. |
