Elon Musk lays off more Twitter employees, promises stock awards for the rest

....Twitter has undergone another round of layoffs after Elon Musk said he was done with them.

After Twitter went through major layoffs last year, which shrunk the size of full-time and contract employees by estimates up to 70%, CEO Elon Musk said that the company would be moving forward with the rest of the staff left at the end of November 2022. That appears not to have been the case.

As reported by Zoë Schiffer from Platformer, the company went through another round of layoffs over the weekend. According to reporting, Elon Musk has laid off Esther Crawford, Twitter’s head of product, and most of the product team. The remaining employees are anticipating a new “regime” to drive the product side of the business forward.

So, what is the company doing to entice the remaining employees to stay after layoffs continue? Stock awards! As reported by The Verge, Elon Musk sent an internal memo to employees on Monday not only confirming the most recent layoffs but also announcing “very significant” stock awards for the remaining staff. According to the memo, the stock award amounts will be based on performance and will be granted on March 24th.

“This past week, we completed a difficult organizational overhaul focused on improving future execution, using as much feedback as we could gather from the entire company. Those who remain are highly regarded by those around them.”

The news comes amid a tidal wave of other changes that the company has either already made or announced. In the last couple of weeks, it was revealed that Twitter plans to start making SMS verification a Twitter Blue feature and the company delayed the launch of its new paid API program.

Elon Musk has also said that he does plan to step down from the CEO role by the end of the year.......

………running it to the ground………?!

I would have been had another job. Too many headhunters out there. The J-1 Visa people are virtually forced to book it back to where they came from.

He'll get his someday.

I certainly have empathy for those who are losing their jobs. But it's just Twitter. Social media flavor of the month. Another will rise to take its place.
Significant layoffs at Tesla could mean a dream has failed, a dream that could actually change the world for the better. Leaving us with the same dinosaurs that have been running the automobile industry for a century.

Could you imagine basically being overworked like a slave and living in gross conditions and putting up with Musk all so you can be let go. All the while he claims to be working hard but flying off to the World Cup and Super Bowl. All the "hardcore" work that helped this wealthy person with an ultra fragile ego have a powerful megaphone. What a terrible human being.

How degrading.

During the social media giant's massive company-wide layoffs a few months back, Esther Crawford - Twitter's director of product management - controversially encouraged workers to sleep at the office, coining the hashtag '#SleepWhereYouWork'.

And this was definitely the case for Crawford, who has been very vocal on Twitter preaching values of so-called work ethic and working beyond one's paid hours.

The photo that re-opened the work-life balance debate, shared by one of Crawford's colleagues, showed the director of product management in a sleeping bag, eye mask and all, cosying up on the floor in-between some chairs and a desk.

The original Tweet was captioned: "When you need something from your boss at Elon twitter."

Crawford herself even retweeted the post adding: "When your team is pushing round the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork."

The controversial post follows reports of Twitter staff being ordered to work '84-hour weeks' or else risk losing their jobs.

The series of tweets since went viral on social media, leaving many to debate amongst themselves.

Coming to her company's defence, Crawford was quick to explain the photo alongside the caption attached to it.

She wrote: "Since some people are losing their minds I'll explain: doing hard things requires sacrifice (time, energy, etc)."

Crawford even went as far to call herself 'lucky' to be doing the long hours that she did.

However, it seems this was all vain as it has been announced that the dedicated staff member has not been exempt from Twitter's avalanche of layoffs and has now been laid off too.

Zoë Schiffer, managing editor of Platformer, announced the news last night (26 February).

She wrote: "Just got confirmation that Esther Crawford, chief executive of Twitter Payments, is out."

The guy is out of his wheel house. If twitter ultimately makes money it's because he's cut back staff with a resulting lack of moderation. Even then, it'll be a financial loss, perhaps a big one, for him. Stupid, stupid, stupid...and he knows it.

Apparently, them getting in the way (i.e. Managing Musk) is the only way things get done.
