"Vending Packs" of 1988 Topps cards worth anything? - freescotland - 02-06-2007

I was given three unopened cases of "Vending Packs" 1988 Topps baseball cards. I think there are 24 boxes of 500 cards in each case.

What are vending packs and are these things worth anything? Each case is very heavy, maybe 50 pounds.

Haven't collected cards since the 1960s, so I am at a loss.

Guessing vending packs are the unopened wax or foil packages. Should be worth some decent amount of money.

'88 was a bad year, especially for Topps. I don't think there are any worthwhile rookies in there, but thumb through a copy of Becketts Baseball Monthly the next time you are at a newstand or bookstore (It's usually either w/ the sports magazines or the hobby magazines). They list values and rookies. Expect to get maybe 1/4 of whatever they print as the value.

Thats what eBay is for.

Write up a super-sounding blurb, photograph one case & start the bidding. A little eBay research to to where//when to post it & let'er fly.

I would start with selling one case. You may be better splitting up the case it f you have the time.

I bet they are well worth selling.

Vending packs are just boxes of 500 loose cards. The boxes themselves are worthless since they can easily be opened and thumbed though. Not worth spending the money to eBay them. You won't get any action for them. Everyone just assumes it's just a box of commons.

Oh. Yuck then. No guarantee of value of contents.

They certainly are worth a good price. You probably have a baseball card shop close by if you live in a medium or larger and can talk to them. Online there are plenty of online pricing sites which require payment. (google "pricing baseball cards) and you will find plenty. They do each card indivdually.

I would check around on Ebay they have a lot activity in this area. Problem is you cannot individual identify because they are packaged and I think that is good thing.

They have magazines on cards too and they might give you a clue. Also books that gives estimates.

1988? You might have a Bonds Rookie car,, ugh!

That is the stuff.

selling there for 7.95 per, so if he can get that it's not too bad since I have three cases of 24 each.

Wonder if I should leave them boxed up in the unopened shipping boxes from Topps and sell as case or bust them open?

thanks for all the replies
