Holy cr@p, I actually got my rebate! - rocketiz - 02-06-2007

I previously complained about a rebate from SOYO from
a LCD TV (and many others have had problems getting
rebates from them -see fatwallet.com). Some people actually
complained to the Calif. Atty General. But after several emails
and several phone messages (almost impossible to get someone
to talk with you) and after 5 months, I actually got the rebate!!

Amazing. I stopped buying anything which had a rebate attached to it. Most of the time it was impossible to claim.

Rebates are certainly not such a problem to get from most companies, but I’ve heard of how painful trying to get them from Soyo can be. Congrats on your persistence and finally getting it.

I have a nearly 100% success rate with rebates. The fact is, the very best deals always have rebates involved. Yes, they do infrequently require maintenance on the redeemer’s part, but often that is only a phone call to get it solved. What is really fun is making a profit on a purchase by getting back more in rebates than what was paid in the first place.

Most major mfrs. and retailers have pretty reliable rebates, but there are some that give pause. I agree about Soyo—I am reluctant to buy one of their products due to their bad rep.

I like Staples if there is a rebate involved - do it online and usually get it in three to four weeks at tops

You can count me in the "no more rebates" column. I am sick of it and I can't stand the "only $100 after rebate" advertising.

Bull$hit.

yeah. And the surface of the sun is a bit warm.

I'm with yoreagano. I've collected hundreds in rebates over the years, 99% of the time with no problems other than the fill out the forms and wait hassle. I've only had one problem-child rebate (the old AcomData firewire CD-RW from several years back) that really required any serious follow up. And I got my money then, too.

Ditto. 'Perhaps' we don't represent the norm, but it doesn't mean that it can't happen. I've only had 1 rebate in over several hundred that wasn't fulfilled (and probably could have had I followed it up).

Thanks for the responses. I will say this; I will avoid SOYO
products with rebates in the future. I will still take a chance
on rebates, but I will check out the company's reputation
for rebates first. I like fatwallet.com as a resource.
