60 minutes: eBay's campaign of terror against a middle aged couple - steve... - 03-27-2023

One of the stories on tonight's 60 Minutes. I may never use eBay again.

Tonight, we will introduce you to the couple that was the target of that stalking. They loved eBay so much they started a publication to help people who sell stuff on the auction site, and then, found themselves the focus of a terror campaign.

Another former employee, Stephanie Stockwell, 28, of Redwood City, California, was also sentenced for her role in the scheme, but avoided prison time.

eBay is a large company with annual revenue in the $10B range. Even a civil suit with a multimillion-dollar judgment would be pocket change to it.

From experience in a different corporate field, prison time is the real game changer. Policies change really, really fast when someone is sent to prison.

That's likely irrelevant in this civil suit and others like it.

First, most companies don't want to give away pocket lint.

Occasionally, maybe a hint of lint, for the 'Go away son, ya bother me!' crowd.

Second, their lawyer(s) has/have already made them aware they won't punish eBay; they're after compensation.

And eBay will fight it.

Agreed.

Government at some level, needs to step in (!) and send corporate criminals to jail.

AND provide compensation.

"A former eBay Inc. executive was sentenced on Thursday to almost five years in prison for leading a scheme to terrorize the creators of an online newsletter that included sending live spiders, cockroaches, a funeral wreath and other disturbing deliveries to their home. "

Man, you do NOT want to do time in MA. Not at all. If he is in gen pop his life is a living nightmare. "Jelly packet on a good day."

They were charged and sentenced in Federal courts, so they will serve time somewhere in the Federal prison system.

WHICH ALMOST NEVER HAPPENS.

That needs to change.
