Pioneer firmware update for DVD drive? - ztirffritz - 02-08-2007

I just got to the bottom of an old box of DVDs that I purchased a long time ago. There was a piece of paper inside that says that a firmware update from Pioneer was offered and it listed Apple computers. The website is "Under Construction". Anyone know how I can get and apply the update?

Crap, I found a version elsewhere...requires OS 9?!?

OK, I don't need it:

No update needed if your drive is revision A227 or higher.

Requires a snippet of software called DVR-Flash (?) to do it on a Mac. STF for my painful (but successful) episode.

I had a problem with a DVD BUrner. I tried the flash on the Mac using DVR FLash

Maybe it was the drive, I always did have trouble burning and errors etc.... But it failed to upgrade the firmware, and then it was toast. Could not use it again.

Had to purchase a Pioneer 111 Dual Layer, which was around 35 dollars local, THen I got it home, and put it in a PC and updated it to the latest firmware using a PC, and all was well. I took a chance with the new one, since I could return it ,had it failed.

Dont know if it was the Mac or a bad drive that needed to be replaced but I am quite happy now..
Wont try Mac version again, but that must have been a unique experience.

Pioneer A04, uuuuggggghhhhh. Slow ass drive that wouldn't burn at 2x unless I used a hacked firmware.

Remember, those early DVRs had trouble with certain media-Reading Disks or Writing Disks. I ran into that problem with a DVR A05. I burned plenty of DVRs on a 111D and they read well on the A05. But when I changed brands to Memorex the A05 would not
Read those particular branded disks. I just got rid of it instead of trying to accomodate this older technology. I mean, $40 gets you the 111D; How big a ding to your wallet is that?
