Garage Door Opener Issue - pinkoos - 05-15-2023 In the past week or so, our door has been popping back open when it reaches maybe an inch away from the ground. It has been taking more and more open / close cycles before it finally stays closed However, the last couple of days it just keeps popping open so it feels like whatever the issue is has progressively gotten worse There are no obstructions that I can see and I've wiped down the sensors Any ideas what this could be? Just trying to troubleshoot before we have to spend the money for a service call We did replace the spring maybe a year or so ago so I can't imagine it's failing already though I guess it's possible Also, this all started out of the blue - we had not made any changes to anything door or opener related I can try any suggestion once I get back home from work this evening Thanks Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - GGD - 05-15-2023 You could try disconnecting the door from the opener by pulling the release cord and try opening and closing the door by hand to see if there's some sort of resistance or binding around the area where it stops. And on the opener motor unit there are usually adjustments for up force and down force that can make it more forceful when hitting resistance, but you should first understand why there's resistance. Try to find an online copy of the owners manual for the unit you have to better understand the adjustments that are possible. Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - chopper - 05-15-2023 Did you unplug and leave unplugged? Does it have an internal battery that might be dead? Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - Acer - 05-15-2023 Just to get the obvious out of the way: Nothing hanging from the bottom of the door, like a leaf stuck to a spider web? Nothing floating around the sensor, again like a leaf on a spider web, that only interferes with the sensor when a little gust of wind blows under the door as it gets close to the bottom? We are dealing with our sensors getting finicky when there's a lot of sunlight in the doorway. I think it may be because some optical element in the sensor is clouding with age. Bright light may be scattered inside the sensor such that it confuses the sensor. Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - Ombligo - 05-15-2023 Have you checked the drive belt or chain? there may be a bad link or the belt may have a tear. Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - Carm - 05-15-2023 Lube the chain/screw drive it equipped. Don’t forget to lube the wheels. Also adjust the closer resistance. Does your garage door stay halfway up when released from the opener? Might need an adjustment. Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - chopper - 05-15-2023 Crap! I'd forgotten to lube the wheels on mine. Going in! Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - Speedy - 05-15-2023 chopper wrote: Use a lightweight oil, not some form of grease or you’ll have problems in the winter. But the wheels really don’t need anything, metal on metal in this application is just fine. Re: Garage Door Opener Issue - Speedy - 05-15-2023 Best tip! It should also tell you about lubrication of the drive train, whether or not to do so. |
