Can Apple Crack Microsoft Exchange Server? - Harbourmaster - 02-15-2007 http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech.Q1.07/8DFEC70D-ED31-46AD-B23A-558AF0473F91.html Apple is leveraging the power of open source development in a new effort to directly target Microsoft Exchange Server. A new standards based, open source Calendar Server will debut this year with Leopard Server; the source itself is already available at MacOSForge.org. Re: Can Apple Crack Microsoft Exchange Server? - ztirffritz - 02-15-2007 I'm not sure if this is where Davemachine got the link, but he just sent the same link to the local Mac User's group. This is an awesome article. I really enjoyed the whole series actually. If Apple, or anyone, can crack the Windows-Exchange lock-in it would be a serious blow to Microsoft. Imagine a corporate environment where Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows can all play on the network with equal rights and participate in meetings, email discussions, without the threat of IT departments coming unglued. It would be fantastic. Re: Can Apple Crack Microsoft Exchange Server? - Silencio - 02-15-2007 Another very strong article from the RoughlyDrafted guy. I find myself reading his site with much more regularlty these days. I have to say, I already spent much time poring over the iCal Server pages on Apple's Leopard Server site. I don't administer any Exchange servers (Praise Jesus!), and none of the open source solutions I've looked at for groupware have quite done it for me. Powerful and robust are great, but my clients mostly need stuff that's easy to pick up and integrates seamlessly with their applications. I think this could be what I'm waiting for. |
