MRF Sleuths - what is this thing? (some sort of aluminum metal sheet) - clay - 09-28-2023

Appears to be non-magnetic (I assume it is aluminum). Size almost exactly 9" x 12". Given how I acquired it, I have long suspected it was used as a lighting filter for video production lighting. And given it's difficult to photograph nature (without lots of reflections and shadows), google image search isn't yielding anything that points to a direct product reference. Probably 1/64" thick--much thicker than aluminum foil, but not quite as thick as an aluminum baking sheet. Easily bendable.

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth anything more than aluminum scrap value. Clearing out a bunch of old/unneeded gear--selling some, scrapping and recycling the rest.

Help me, MRF, you're my only hope!

looks like metal typically used for a wood and metal radiator cover

looks like a winner to me: https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/aluminum-sheet-union-jack-56008-24-inchl-x-12-inchw-x-02-inchh-silver

Just a different dimension. Perhaps what I've got has been cut from larger stock for a specific purpose.

I think it will just go to the metal recycler. At less than $20 new for a 24" x 12" sheet, I can't imagine this is worth my time to try and sell.

It'd recycle it or add it to an odds and ends bin if you have a workshop.

wife is going to take it to a "creative reuse" shop here in town. win-win.

Clay,

It is an old-timey hot pad for the dinner table. You put scalloped potatoes or mac & cheese bowls on it. It radiates the heat out sideways.

My. mother and a few relatives had them. You could not put them on a table without a tablecloth without risking scratching the table.

Interesting. Doesn't seem like it would be thick enough to dissipate heat away. But I'm no engineer!
