than it used to. food poisoning aside, I swear they must be making the stuff differently than they did in the 1950's and 60's. subtle, but discernible; and way more "flavors" to choose from now, though I gotta say 1957/58 vintage Skippy chunky style was heaven on bread...

Best I can figure is use of corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup alters the taste. Both would not have been in much use years ago. Also using hydrogenated vegatable oils instead of leaving more of the peanut oil in, is not an improvement. As for best tasting peanut butter, the large 5 lb cans of it distributed by the Agriculture Dept to schools and other organizations from the surplus program were the best that I recall. Real pain to spread, but best tasting.

Adams peanut butter is great. I wouldn't touch any of that highly adulterated Jif/Skippy/etc nastiness that goes by the name of peanut butter. I think they should require those types to be labelled (in big letters) "peanut-flavored spread".

Too sweet.
Less salt.
They really screwed up the taste of Peanut Butter cups, first they screwed up the PB, and now they messed with the chocolate formula so they can ship to hotter climates without a chocolate mess.
Trader Joes PB Cups are now the best.

Good peanut butter isn't going to be found in a jar of Skippy, Jif or any similar commercial brand. Smuckers All Natural, Trader Joes or any similar type that is just peanuts (and salt) is the only way to get quality peanut butter. 'course, I hve a special fondness for the freshly ground kind, too. After eating real peanut butter like Smuckers or Trader Joes all natural, the commercial stuff with additives tastes like chemically dosed crap.
