my cat has cornered a mouse - blooz - 02-17-2007

He had it and put it down to play with it and it got away. It's hiding behind the bookcase and magazine rack in the corner of the kitchen. I feel sorry for the mouse, it's one of those cute little deer mice, but I've suffered damage from them in the past.
I'm trying to keep an eye on the situation just so he doesn't eat the thing. one time he threw up on my sheets after eating a mouse.
The cold is driving them indoors. i came home Tues. and found a mouse head on the rug in front of the door. Almost stepped on it.
It does keep the cat busy.

That's the problem when a house cat finds a mouse; too often they let it get away while playing with it!

Well, I went and got the mouse out of his hidey hole, but Malibu was losing interest, as the mouse was limping and not moving a lot. I caught it and put it outside, so i don't have to worry about cleaning up body parts and possibly cat barf. It it survives, it'll be back.

BunBun and Boo most often play with/eat smallish spiders. BunBun especially seems to like the fresh protein, extremely small though it is.

My cat has no hunting instincts whatsoever and would have absolutely no idea what to do with a mouse. She has never pounced on anything and she doesn't even tackle my feet if I wiggle them under the covers.

The dog, on the other hand, would have a great time chasing a mouse around the house!

Malibu used to jump on my toes, but soon discovered that the foot the toes were attached to could propel him across the room and into the wall, and stopped.

Max doesn't attack bare feet.... (he learned that the same way Malibu did... only maybe with a bit less force...)
However, he has not QUITE connected sock bearing feet as being FEET.. he only sees menacing looking socks with which to fight.
Usually followed by the menacing white sock being a less menacing blood soaked sock.

He's an excellent mouser, and under-the-covers foot warmer.... So I correct him without violence.

I DO wish he wouldn't EAT the mice though... Blech! He has this way of leaving the innards, and eating the rest... tail, skull, fur, bones, and all.

Unless he brings the mouse for "us" to hunt "together" in the house...
I haven't yet convinced him that I really do not need the "hunting practice".
He sure enjoys the bonding experience though... me with my little net and gloves.. him with claws and better reaction times.
He has such a good time with that that I have a hard time getting through to him that he's in trouble.

Fortunate just a mouse.

I had a cat that brought home skunks and raccoons.
Fighting with raccoons gets very expensive.
The foot ride was considered fun. Beware you should stop.
She was named "Kung-Fu" for a reason. Lived very lomg time, too. 15/16 years.

That mouse must've been hurtin' if it wasn't back in the warm house faster than you.

Well, he never sees you hunt mice on your own and he figures you're missing out on some great times.
Clearly he is a GOOD KITTY!

I sure hope my wife doesn't read this thread. She's been wanting a kitty. This thread almost makes me want to go get one again...
