Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - voodoopenguin - 02-17-2007 Picked this up via Freecycle from just down the road. They said it had suddenly stopped printing black although they had just put in a new Epson cartridge. It's a CX6400 and after d/l the drivers I had it scanning, copying and printing from Word via my MacBook Pro but as they said, no black. Epson utility shows it is almost full and I have done several cleaning cycles until I'm told I cannot do any more as Cyan is low but still absolutely nothing comes out of the black cartridge. I've removed it and carefully shaken it as well. I've had many Epsons but none that have the same cartridges so at the moment I cannot just swap over to a different black cartridge until I can pick one up next week . So is there anything else I should be looking at in the meantime? Re: Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - Carm - 02-17-2007 Check the bottom of the print head. Might be clogged. chas_m and others have suggested soaking a paper towel with windex or another window cleaner and manually putting the print head on it to dissolve any ink residue. Carm Re: Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - voodoopenguin - 02-17-2007 I'll give it a go. Maybe this new cartridge had been sitting on a shelf for too long. Re: Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - OWC Jamie - 02-17-2007 The clear protective film was correctly removed and this is the correct cartridge ? It is also possible the original cartridge changer very carefully put the new cartridge in the mailer bag and the old cartridge back in the printer. :-) (Last I knew, Epsons don't really know how much ink is in a cartridge, but estimates content based on 'squirt' count. ) Did you shake the printer ? :-) :-) :-) **any line followed by three smilies should be considered sarcasm. Re: Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - Go To Top - 02-17-2007 They got forums too. I won't tell if you use them forums. Re: Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - mattkime - 02-18-2007 put windex on the sponge where the head rests. let it sit for a day or two then do a cleaning cycle. its worked for me many times. Re: Problem with a freebie Epson all-in-one - Numo - 02-18-2007 I use a perpetually clogged Epson CX6400 for scanning and a non-clogging Canon inkjet for printing. For me this has proved to be the best of both worlds. What I like about the Epson scanner sw is that it can be configured to default print to my laser printer to turn it into a good budget copy machine. Time for bed here in the UK but I've soaked the sponge as so far all else has failed. Thank you to all for the suggestions and at the end of the day it was a freebie and it happily scans. |
