Any concerns about using a USA-purchased Roku in Canada? - Todd's keyboard - 02-26-2024

Am considering upgrading my Roku to a Roku Streambar. The two advantages would be the (I assume) better speakers and the ability to play MP4 videos from a USB drive.

I'm wondering if there are any pitfalls to taking a Roku Streambar purchased in the US back to Canada? Will there be some limitations on what I am able to stream?

Not really sure why I think anyone in this group might know. Someone might offer a perspective on some aspect of this that may be useful to someone.

thanks, Todd's True North keyboard

From a streaming standpoint, I don't think you'd have any issues as content is usually limited by your IP address, so it should pick up that you're in Canada.

The warranty might be an issue if you need to use it, depending on if they have US and Canada specific warranties or a combined one.

You will be happier with the sound of the bar if you also get a sub!

The bar by itself will sound at least 2x better than TV speakers. but the sub makes music really better!

Nice reminder about the sub.

Yep, the any warranty issues would involve bringing the unit back to the US.

My current Roku has specific buttons to jump straight to frequently-used channels. For example, I have a special "Crave" button that jumps straight to the Canadian Crave streaming service.

At $100, I think I'll take a gamble.

thanks again, Todd's keyboard, eh?

Yea, the remote buttons do change periodically (and by market), but you can probably pair your old remote to the new soundbar if you prefer the direct streaming buttons on it.
