What theatrics will Trumpo have to delay his Monday trial? - steve... - 04-13-2024

I'm not holding my breath. Jury selection is expected to take 1-2 weeks. Is he required to sit through that process without talking? I hope so.

NBC News:

Trump's hush money trial begins Monday. Here's what to expect.

the last thing he can do is come down with an illness, but that would appear weak... perhaps a lawyer gets sick

Just some random guesses...

1) Shoots someone in the middle of 5th Ave.
2) Melania files for divorce.
3) Rudy shows up as his new legal team.
4) Tie gets caught in the elevator.
5) Bone spurs act up.
6) Shows up in a bath robe with a walker, claims to be mentally unfit for trial.
7) Courthouse floods after someone flushes toilet, "like 15 times".

No way he doesn't use this to show how this is a witch hunt!

Define "Witch" and you might have a basis for discussion.

If he is, then you can count on him squirming, rolling his eyes, mumbling, making side-eye, whispering to his lawyer constantly, and in general trying to make the potential jurors very very aware of his presence and that HE SEES THEM.

Just to be clear, I should have labeled my answer 'satire.'

SCOTUS has ruled that a defendant may be removed from the courtroom if they create a disturbance or act in such a way as to intimidate jurors. That includes during jury selection. In such cases, the defendant may watch the proceedings from a remote location and be able to communicate with their defense. In practical terms, judges are very reluctant to remove a defendant. It creates an almost automatic appeal.

Trump's attendance at the jury selection is not required, so claiming to be ill will not work. My guess is he will be there for a few days, railing against the process, the judge, and the prosecutor from the courthouse steps at every break. Then he will not go and claim the judge made it untenable for him to be there.

I just wish it was televised.
