Canadian wildfires are back... - gabester - 05-13-2024

Looks like they burned away underground all winter and have re-emerged. Last year's fire season ended with something like a Nebraska-sized portion of Canadian forests burned, about 10x the usual amount, I'd have to find my links from back then, but Canada is something like 23 Nebraskas in size...

Currently 4 US states are experiencing air quality alerts due to 24k* acres burning in British Columbia: Montana, the Dakotas, and Minnesota.

* 24,000 acres is a little more than 1/4th the size of Detroit (and unlike Detroit much of Canada is unpopulated), to give you a sense of area, if that amount is to be believed that's nothing to be concerned about although I'd want to look at the typical metrics for this time of year.

If I thought that Canada was responsible, I’d be pissed.

(And if I were Trump, I’d send them some rakes and fire extinguishers, and promise to build a wall to keep the smoke out.)

Send Trump, he can blow the smoke from the fires in British Columbia west. We had unsafe air yesterday (AQI just shy of 200) but it seems to have moved south of us, at least temporarily. The peat bogs will probably burn for decades unless they get an unusually heavy amount of rain and snow.

Or, some people are saying, in this case, STOP shining light on those forests and they'll stop growing. That's what a lot of people are saying... STOP the light and the forests will stop.
