Voting along party lines, the 30 Republicans in the NC senate voted to outlaw the wearing of face masks in public for health reasons. The Republicans claim it is to assist police in identifying protesters and not to go after Grandmother at Walmart. However the proposal does not include any exceptions and it would be up to law enforcement to enforce as they see fit.

The measure still needs to pass the Republican House and then be signed into law by the Democrat governor.

ID protesters - whether they are doing anything illegal or not? I don't see how this should be considered Constitutional. It essentially requires you to ID yourself to the police even if there is no reasonable suspicion of a crime.

Exactly. It's all performance. These people do not take their jobs seriously except for the paycheck part, for which they are willing to act like total jackasses.

Effectively the worst thing about it is giving the police a tool when they scan for probable cause to stop or detain someone when they don't have any other reason.

Performative nonsense that will never become law. Party of freedom strikes out again.
If you don't intend a behavior to become illegal, like Grandma wearing her mask at the store, then don't make it so.
It's already illegal to wear a mask while committing a crime.
Get back to stealing hundreds of millions from public schools, canceling health insurance and free meals for poor children, putting children behind bars, making it hard for Black people to vote, coddling polluters, and other stuff your party loves. Really who has time for this mask business.

even long before pandemic, in China ladies used face mask for a quick trip to the convenience store when they didn't have time to use makeup. This is what a Chinese colleague told me.
So I can use that excuse and wear a mask because I didn't shave, not for health reasons.
