Posting from going-out-of-business CompUSA... - Will Collier - 03-04-2007 ... in Marietta, GA. As suspected, the first part of the fire sale pretty much sucks. All the new Apple hardware appears to have been moved out right after the store closings were announced. About half a dozen MacBooks, four iMacs and one Mac Pro floor models are laughingly priced down a whopping five percent (which wouldn't even conver the sales tax here). Nothing much else of note; for instance, hard drives are full retail minus 10%, which again isn't even close to a decent sale price, much less what you can get similar product for on-line. Then again, you'd get 20% off a $5 DVD of "Iron Eagle," which I think qualifies as the "best" deal in the store (and that says all you need to say about the "deal" quality this week). I'll check again next week. There's still lots and lots of stuff on the shelves. Decent number of people in here checking things out, but nobody appears to be buying anything substantial so far. Re: Posting from going-out-of-business CompUSA... - jawg - 03-04-2007 Typical CompUSA "sale." Not too difficult to guess why they are closing so many stores. Still, I will give them credit for a good on-line Panasonic digital camera deal per another site's listing today. The same unit pRon noted here last week at Office Depot in store, now for $20 less at CompUSA.com. I'll take credit for the price decrease since I went out and bought one at the local OD. Re: Posting from going-out-of-business CompUSA... - Mike Sellers - 03-04-2007 Wait. CompUSA has display computers that are actually online? Knock me over with a feather. Hey, maybe someone can check if they get redirected to a secret company intranet that shows higher prices when you check sale prices, like Best Buy (Elsewhere). Re: Posting from going-out-of-business CompUSA... - MikeF - 03-04-2007 I was at the one in Long Beach (Los Altos center) and the same thing. No real bargains, just slight reductions from their already high prices. I looked at the LCD TVs and most were priced well above what I would consider "fire-sale" prices -- the Black Friday sales beat the CompUSA prices by a lot; even with the measly 10% off... They did have some Apple accessories for 5% off -- keyboards and mice. Even the software was high priced... They also had Xbox 360s for 10% off. Re: Posting from going-out-of-business CompUSA... - OWC Jamie - 03-05-2007 I think their business model has been the "I feel guilty walking out of the store empty handed" people will keep them alive. It didn't work. :-) |
