I just set up Parrallells and installed Windows XP. On advice in this forum I was advised to install Avast. They said I could download it on the Mac side so I wouldn't have to expose myself to viruses right away on the Windows side. Now that I have the exe file how do I get it into my Windows environment?

What do the Parallels instructions have to say about sharing files between Mac and Windows?

Please wait for better advice from someone in the community that actually cares to help.
If I remember correctly you can set up (using parallels tools) a shared directory which can be read from OS X and XP (under Parallels).

You mean, spoon-feed him because he's too lazy to read the Parallels documentation on how to move a file between environments.
That's not helping; that's ultimately hurting.
Now, if he followed the directions but they didn't work, that's when he should ask for help.
But no one should ask to be spoon-fed items that are in the product's user manual. Do you agree or disagree?

What version (Build) of Parallels are you using? If you are using the latest Build 3186 (I think)...or at least 3150...you can just drag and drop the .exe file onto your Windows-side/desktop/etc.

By the way, I have read the users manual and also visited the support forum at Parralells.
The version I downloaded from their site says 1970.

if you arent ever going to put the windows side online, then i would say dont bother with anti virus
as for windows updates, same logic
if the XP side is working perfect for everything you need, then dont upgrade XP
there will probably be fewer and fewer updates for XP as time goes by, its all a new vista now...
