Nokia 6030: this must be the smallest USB connector I have ever seen - space-time - 03-04-2007

OK, I fell for the target deal last week, I needed minutes anyway, so I also got the phone for free. 6030 may be the bottom of the range, but it does what I want: make calls. That's it.

Now the phone has a small USB connectors, like those on digital cameras, except it is even smaller. as far as I understand, it is NOT a standard USB cable, I think NOKIA came up with this design.

It appears that a data cable will allow you to do certain things, like back up, restore and even move MP3 ringtones into the phone. You can do all this if you buy a cable http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I87DH2/ref=nosim/?tag=dealtime-wireless-20&creative=380333&creativeASIN=B000I87DH2&linkCode=asn and if you run Windows (blah).

Questions:

1-is there a cheaper cable out there? 20 bucks for something that might not work is too much.

2-even though iSycn does not officially support Nokia 6030, did anyone try it? can you sync contacts, callendars, ToDos and Notes?

Looks like a standard 4 pin to 5 pin mini used on cameras and PDAs. Cyberguys sells them for about $3.

No, it's smaller than that. The one you mentioned is standard USB B. This must be USB "C". LOL! Thanks though

My wife and I both have this phone, as do all of my users at work with Cell Phones. I'd be very interested to know if this works. If you do end up buying this cable, would you please PM me and let me know if it works?

You need to look for a CA-45

from what I've found on google, it can be done, if you get the right cable, and free software from Nokia.

here is another cable (thanks 'penguin)

I did more googling and it seems that there is a chip inside the actual cable (look at the USB connector on the computer, it is fatter than an usual USB connector). I think the port on the phone itself is SERIAL, so that chip converts the USB port into a serial port.

It is smaller than the standard USB cables near that size...

...what is appears though, is the same cable HP used to use on the HP PhotoSmart camera line...circa 98-01 - that I personally remember. Same size/shape/everything.

I believe it's a proprietary cable from Nokia. If I'm not mistaken, your best source will probably be ebay.

The only place that I saw this cable on eBay was from someone in Australia. The cable was cheap, but $10 shipping brings it back to the Amazon price.
