I still hate Linked In - mrbigstuff - 02-27-2025 just venting. I'm constantly asked about my "Linked In page," but I decommissioned that 10 years ago. I found it not to be of any use to find a job just to talk to other people who are also looking for a job. My impression is that it is just another social network and I have had enough of those, although I really do not participate in any at the moment. Has anyone, ever, found a gig by being on LI and getting hooked up? I just don't see it. Re: I still hate Linked In - special - 02-27-2025 I got the current job because they found me on LinkedIn. Also I keep track of and in touch with former colleagues which are not necessarily friends to be in my cell phone. Re: I still hate Linked In - August West - 02-27-2025 Know many that have been solicited over linked in Re: I still hate Linked In - JoeM - 02-27-2025 MY wife is an HR director. While she uses LinkedIn she says most of her hires come from Indeed. Re: I still hate Linked In - mrbigstuff - 02-27-2025 interesting. the spouse also uses Indeed but keeps the LI page up to date. I'm in the non-corporate world and perhaps that is a difference and she is, also. I just find it is other people looking at the LI pages and not those who are hiring, but others obviously have different outcomes. Re: I still hate Linked In - mattkime - 02-27-2025 I saw a former colleague was looking for work and submitted her for a position. Didn’t work out but it might under slightly different circumstances. Re: I still hate Linked In - Lux Interior - 02-27-2025 I've gotten lots of contacts from headhunters on LI. But I was in a small industry and most jobs came from inside contacts. Re: I still hate Linked In - mspace - 02-27-2025 I think it depends on the field and type of work. We use it quite a bit as freelancers. Re: I still hate Linked In - rz - 02-27-2025 My LI page says my job is N/A and that I work for a company called "None of Your Business". I occasionally get things from LI saying I might know so-and-so who also put down that they work for "None of Your Business". I only got a LI page so I could see what a former colleague was up to. His description of what he did when we worked together was pure fiction. I also had a former girlfriend check out my page. And then her niece checked it out. They're the only ones who have, to my knowledge, ever checked out my page. LI keeps sending me emails saying "You're being noticed! You've had 1 person check out your page!". And for some reason, it's always the niece that shows up if I check. I don't think she's continually checking it out, I think it just keeps telling me about the one time. Re: I still hate Linked In - freeradical - 02-28-2025 When I lived in Sacramento, the local library provided free access to the Lynda site. When Linked In bought them, they basically started requiring people to get Linked In accounts to access the videos, even if they got them via their library. Linked In was basically trying to acquire the user databases of these libraries, so our local library cancelled their relationship with Lynda. |
