Re: who is part of the Feb 28-DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! moment? - hal - 02-28-2025 not me - I just don't see the point plus I'm leaving on a camping trip on sunday - I need stuff Re: who is part of the Feb 28-DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! moment? - JoeM - 02-28-2025 I’m in as are a number of my friends. In addition, there are many that will elect to stay off Facebook, TwitX, Instagram and other social media platforms. This, of course, does NOT include our home here on our favorite forum. Re: who is part of the Feb 28-DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! moment? - Robert M - 02-28-2025 Rob, Not me. It's a meaningless gesture. If I don't buy anything tomorrow, it just means I'll have to make the purchase(s) another day. Robert Re: who is part of the Feb 28-DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! moment? - Markintosh - 02-28-2025 I'm in. It's too easy. In for all economic protests...already been doing it. Our consumption of network TV is down about 90%. Our Amazon spending has dropped 80% in the last 6 months. Walmart is "necessities only". Target is down to just their "Good & Gather" mini snack bars. Re: who is part of the Feb 28-DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! moment? - RecipeForDisaster - 02-28-2025 I have to pay the mechanic and the hoof trimmer, but those are both little guys and cash. That’s all we will be spending. Re: who is part of the Feb 28-DO NOT BUY ANYTHING! moment? - hal - 02-28-2025 I posted this on the other side: of course things are dire, but I don't see how a 24 hour suspension of buying is gonna move the needle at all. If 10,000,000 people suspend prime for a month, that would have an effect. People would be buying that stuff locally instead. But even then... Bezos would be just fine if he missed a month of profits. Or even a year. It seems to me that protests that are 'easy' have zero effect. No one will struggle not to spend for one day. Protests that work seem to require pain. Think Kentucky coal mine strike... they had to do it for MONTHS to get real change. If you haven't seen it, find "Harlan County, USA" and watch it. *** Well damn... somebody went and put it up on youtube and it's still there. This won the academy award for best doc in 1976 - it's areal slice of history from the 'inside' watch it and see how a group of people without any power won and beat 'the man', but it took 13 long, hard months https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwXfZF7dXtE |
