Microsoft had only just begun testing Teams when Covid hit. Microsoft had a broken version of Teams, Google had Meet, Apple had Facetime, and Zoom was just rolling into the market. Zoom was a FAR easier to use product, though initially far less secure. Does anyone remember joining Zoom meetings and having random people drop in to crash the meeting? Zoom had a single app with a single function to work on. Microsoft was trying to integrate Teams into a couple dozen separate apps. It was initially a mess with authentication errors, crashes, and just generally confusing to use. Google Meet was actually probably the better application, but Zoom captured the attention and developed momentum. Initially Teams and Skype were nearly the same applications.

We used Skype when we are out of the country for its capability to call any number. With WhatsApp the party you call has to use WhatsApp which isn’t practical for landlines used by businesses.

No.
I started using zoom in early 2018 long before covid, for work, and stories came our about security issues but I have never seen anything like this, despite being in Zoom meetings from PC or Conference Rooms for about 10-15 hours every week. We had offices in multiple locations and all group meetings were on Zoom so I spent a lot of time.

My employer prohibited us from using Zoom. The connection wasn't fully encrypted and created too much of a risk. Zoom wound up paying a fine or some such with regards to the encryption issue.

We were forced to use Teams during Covid. It sucked. So many issues. It did get better as time went along, but I'm so glad I don't have to use it anymore.
