Well, Whaddaya Know! - mrlynn - 03-01-2025

I just discovered that with a couple of quick Control clicks I can open a microphone and dictate text. How long is this been true?

I'm running Monterey on my mid 2015 iMac at the moment. Wednesday I slipped on black ice in a parking lot and landed on my shoulder, where just a few weeks earlier I had torn a rotator cuff. This made it much worse, so much so that I cannot type with the right hand at all. But then I found with TextEdit that I could dictate, and it works on I just about any text field like this one!

Can't wait to tell my Mac-savvy grandson about this. Bet he doesn't know it yet.

Ouch! I’m glad it wasn’t any worse. Get well soon.

Actually, by default you just have to tap the fn key twice to activate dictation. By the way, it works in any field, document, or application that accepts text input.

A long time. Back to at least High Sierra (8 years ago).

Ditto. I’ve found my recovery time from physical injuries increases proportionally to my age. I’m in PT now trying to heal from a fall I took last August. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks. This was really adding insult to injury. Slipped on my shed ramp on New Year's Day and was slowly getting better. Just had MRI which showed rotator cuff tear. New fall was worse than before and now got to have another MRI. Surgery may be in the cards or may not as age related degeneration may make it difficult. Sleeping is really difficult because of pain.

Really sorry about all that. I hope you can get some pain relief and heal quickly.
