Sony 400-800mm F6.3-8 ($2.9k) - pRICE cUBE - 03-01-2025 In case anyone anyone is interested in picking up a Sony body, I am seeing the A9 on the used market for around $1200. It is a 24mp camera that shoots 20fps. Re: Sony FE: Sigma 300-600mm f4 ($6k). Sony 400-800mm F6.3-8 ($2.9k) - Gareth - 03-01-2025 Sigma should be an awesome lens, but I believe I read it won't work with teleconverters on Sony? Maybe because Sigma doesn't make E-mount teleconverters and it won't work with the Sony ones? Also, it'll be limited to 15fps auto-focus on Sony bodies. Won't have either of these limitations on L-mount. Although I'm not familiar with L-mount bodies and in my brief search, I couldn't find anything really comparable to Sony in terms of MP and FPS. One day, I'll probably get around to selling some lenses for the 400-800! Re: Sony FE: Sigma 300-600mm f4 ($6k). The A9/A9II are 20fps. the A9III is up to 120fps. Would love to use this lens for many outdoor fields sports but need more fps for softball/baseball. To get 600mm f4 reach on a Sony, you need to buy the $13k lens. The Sigma also zooms opposite of what am used to. As for the L mount. I believe the fastest mechanical L mount frame rate is 10fps on the Panasonics. The latest Panasonic does e-shutter 40fps but I don't know how fast the readout speed is. That's probably too slow for action and fast action wildlife. The Canon R5II is 1/160th which is enough to freeze most action sports that are not fast traveling balls. |
