The version 13 on Hardware 4 is incredible.
The premise of the painted wall is strictly for entertainment, when would that ever be encountered in the real world?

Agreed. I was much more concernedby the water and fog results.

This is my experience as a daily driver.

That earlier video was just clickbait.

His wall doesn't match the background as closely as it did in Rober's video.
He also did not test the manikin part at all.

And no, you would not be likely to encounter a perfectly painted wall.
Rober didn't tell you to throw away your Tesla because it failed his extremely unlikely scenario.

OTOH, LIDAR wasn't fooled at all. Which is safer for unlikely edge cases?

So if you make the wall badly enough the car can tell it's there. Who would have expected that?

Not an edge case. Does not need to be done.

The test is when the road ahead cannot be differentiated from the background visually. The Roadrunner scenario was an extreme test of that. The person behind heavy fog was a real world scenario, if you've ever seen youtube videos of cars smashing into each other on a fogged-in highway.

Re: Can You Fool A Self Driving Car? (interesting update) - kj - 03-22-2025

The fog is legit, but you’re never gonna see the roadrunner.

As pointed out, the roadrunner bit was a gag.

But there is a valid point behind it, to anyone not distracted.
