help decorating side door area - davemchine - 03-12-2007

I have a side door that is a bit blah. I know side doors are not the main entrance, but it is the door I most frequently use coming from the garage. So I'd like to spiff it up a bit. Here are a couple of pictures, I'd welcome some advice. Thanks,

Dave

Maybe a couple of 4' to 6' tall Cyprus topiaries in large pots to replace the small flower pots there now.

how about a pair of hookers, one on each side, leaning up against the house?

A beefy looking doorframe might go a long way. Right now it just looks like a flat rectangular opening on a flat wall. Frame it with something that sticks out from the house a little bit, create some depth. And give it some color. Maybe a wider wood step on top of that concrete one.

I agree with the topiary idea.
Or... a pair of long narrow shutters on either side of the door, painted in a contrasting trim that matches/blends with other trim on the house.

Absolutely no way to tell without seeing the whole house, or at least enough to see the form/style.

otherwise, we have no idea how to dress the hookers.

Can't really see far enough up the house, but how about this for over the door?
