Re: DO NOT LEAVE THE COUNTRY - $tevie - 04-22-2025

Is it me or do these content creators always take three times longer to tell us something than necessary? Rachel Maddow does this, also. I really don't have to be told the same thing five times.

I noticed the same. I suspect they get paid by the minutes viewed.

I skip ahead when they repeat and I bail out once they are done and do a promotion at the end. In this case i was preparing lunch and didn't get a chance to skip... oh well.

What troubles me is that messages like this are important. Don't ramble around so much that people wander off, bored to tears.

For a lot of what I view on YouTube I adjust the playback speed to 2x, and speech is still pretty understandable. For those people who tend to talk faster (I'm looking at you ProjectFarm) I have to settle for 1.5x or 1.75x. It's gotten to the point where I don't even remember what some of these people sound like at 1x speed.

I’ll have to try 1.5-2.0x, great idea

Re: DO NOT LEAVE THE COUNTRY - Acer - 04-22-2025

I think there some algorithm-driven rule related to advertising revenue that demands videos be at least 10 minutes. I've heard some creators literally say, "well, the video needs to be at least ten minutes, so let me talk about this other thing before I go."

Well if true that sucks.

But Lock Picking Lawyer has only short videos.

A lot of creators still do shorter stuff. You don't have to, but if you want maximum bucks, ya gotta play YouTube's game.

EDIT: Looks like 8 minutes may be the real magic number, as it allows more ads. Lots of discussion here: https://crowdfundly.com/blog/how-long-does-a-youtube-video-have-to-be-to-make-money
