QR codes? Static vs dynamic? Who to use to generate it?

Hi everyone,

We decided it’s time for my company to have a QR code and, upon first glance, it seems like an easy enough process to obtain one. Jump to a site like Adobe Express, Canva, QR Code Monkey, or VistaPrint, generate the code, download it as a file (PNG, JPG, etc) and you’re done. Would love the code as a PDR or EPS file so resizing it wouldn’t cause agita. It seems that easy for a static code.

Therein is the problem. Should my company get a static QR code or a dynamic code?

The plan is to create the code and put it on business cards and product literature so someone can scan it and get brought directly to our web site. Based on this, it seems like a static QR code created with a reputable QR code generator should do the trick.

Any advice and insights about the process of creating a QR code will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Robert

I use this site for one-offs. It will let you get an EPS or SVG.

If you just need a single non changing code, any of those are fine. QR code money can save as SVG, PDF or eps (All vector formats) so no issues with scaling. PNGs as large as 2000 x 2000 px, which is huge as well.

Dynamic QR codes usually cost $$ for a subscription. There may be one or two? places that offer tracking for free if you want it. I *think* flowcode might? or hovercode? Its been awhile since I have looked.

Most all of my clients just want a basic code, and since I spend 95% of my day in Indesign I just make them with its built in QR code generator.

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for the info! Love that Lets you download the code in various file formats including vector formats (which I prefer for graphics and such).

Generated a test code with an old version of my company web site. Worked great! Saved in all four file formats (PNG, JPEG, SVG and EPS). Works beautifully. Did it again with the current site. Perfect!

Should be easy enough to place it on business cards and product literature.

Thanks again!

Robert

There is a Shortcut that takes whatever URL is on your clipboard, generates a QR Code and saves it to your Photos library.
