Trump believes Garcia *literally* has MS-13 tattooed on his knuckles - pdq - 04-30-2025
…and got pissy when an interviewer corrected him.
First, some background, if this is new to you. Some time ago, Trump showed off a picture of tattoos on Kilmar Garcia’s hand, to which someone had helpfully (and apparently erroneously - Politifact calls it “Pants on Fire”) interpreted as signifying “MS-13”, and photoshopped those letters over top, like so:
…and Trump insisted to this reporter he _literally_ had the photoshopped “MS-13” tattooed on his knuckles:
“There’s a dispute about that,” [reporter] Moran said, trying to move on to the next topic.
“Wait a minute. Wait a minute,” Trump objected. “He had ‘MS-13’ on his knuckles, tattooed.”
“He had some tattoos that are interpreted that way,” Moran clarified. “But let’s move on.”
“Wait a minute. Terry. Terry, Terry,” Trump said during Tuesday’s interview, refusing to move on.
“He did not have the letters ‘M-S-1-3,’” Moran said.
“It says ‘M-S-1-3,’” Trump insisted.
“That was Photoshopped,” Moran said.
“That was Photoshopped? Terry you can’t do that,” Trump told Moran. “Hey, they’re giving you the big break of a lifetime [interviewing me],” he continued. “You’re doing the interview. I picked you because—frankly I never heard of you but that’s OK. I picked you but you’re not being very nice. He had ‘MS-13’ tattooed—”
“We’ll agree to disagree. I want to move on to something else,” Moran said.
“Terry. Terry. Do you want me to show you the picture?” Trump said.
[Moran said he’d seen the (obviously photoshopped) picture.]
“No, no. Terry. Terry,” Trump insisted. “No, no. No, no. He had ‘M-S’ as clear as you can be, not ‘interpreted.’ This is why people no longer believe the news, because—”
…[Moran] pointed out that the word “MS-13” doesn’t appear in any of the photos of Abrego Garcia that have been taken since he was deported to El Salvador.
“Terry!” Trump interjected.
“Ukraine, sir,” Moran practically begged.
“He’s got ‘MS-13’ on his knuckles, okay?” Trump said. “You’re just such a disservice. Why don’t you just say, ‘Yes he does’ and go on to something else?”
“It’s contested,” Moran replied. “Ukraine.”
It appears Trump’s handlers never really explained the picture to him. Much like the 9-0 SCOTUS decision against him representing a “win” in the case. Or like Sharpie-gate.
Everyone knows Trump is not very bright. I think it’s clear that his handlers take advantage of this by carefully concocting and curating a fantasy world to coddle him in, in order to accomplish their goals.

Here’s video of the full exchange, on Bluesky. This poor interviewer (Moran) is trying his best to ever-so-gently push back on Trump’s assertion that the sky is green, not blue, and Trump insists it’s green.
Well, it’s been interpreted that way. Let’s move on.

It's obvious looking at the pic the M S 1 and 3 do not conform to the shape of the hand.
I suppose no one has explained how the translation of those tats translated to MS-13.

ya know, when this made the rounds initially a few weeks ago, on social media there were some Trump critics who pointed out that the MS 13 was obviously photoshopped, and that the administration was falsifying evidence. Promptly, the MAGA Apologists appeared and chastised them saying OF COURSE it's OBVIOUSLY photoshopped, that was done be the whatever department as part of the analysis. Like how they helpfully label "NUCULAR BOMB FACTORY" on satellite images of Iran.
