Guess who wants a new AF-1 this year. - Ombligo - 05-01-2025

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Trump has ordered the federal government to hire defense contractor L3Harris to refurbish a Boeing 747 previously used by the Qatari government for Air Force One.

The president hopes to use the refurbished plane by the fall, sources told the outlet, and is regularly checking on its progress

During Trumps first term. he negotiated with Boeing to manufacture two replacement 747's to tune of $3.9 billion. Nearly seven years after Boeing won the contract, the planes are behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget after supplier, manufacturing and engineering setbacks.

Air Force One may look like your standard 747, but they been heavily modified to military specs and hardened against attacks. The two current ones have been in service for more than three decades.

Wouldn't it just be easier to borrow a jet from Putin?

Or just take it from the Qatari government. I'm sure there are palms to be greased, backs to be rubbed, and favors to be owed.

Have I mentioned that he's such an ass? It bears repeating.

So it's more cost effective to refurbish a USED plane than to finish a project started 7 years ago? What is the latest ETA for the new pair of AF-1 from Boeing?

The only president that had the time to worry about the plane.

Notably, this is a prestige project for Boeing. They are losing more than $2 billion on it.

And the planes that are being used for AF1 are originally Russian (sort of).

Oh c'mon Donnie.

We can't have our 100 dolls this year, so suffer like the rest of us.

I'm wondering if it will be gold-adorned like he's done at the WH.

I'm not talking about any tactical or electronic use, but adornment, likely tacky and schlocky gilding, in this case.

Do you really have to ask? It will be tacky as hell.

Yes, he and Melania are poster children for gaudy, nouveau riche poor taste.

Just paint the one we have gold and tell him it's new.
