If I didn't already own two ...giant killers

I would be hard-pressed to justify buying a bike that old. Parts can be difficult to find and I much prefer FI to carbs. She is a beauty, though.

Yup. I had a '72 Honda 350K3 twin and when the mufflers rusted out I did a nationwide search for replacements. Finally found the last two sitting on a shelf in a dealers parts room in Ohio. Bought them, but after that I was dealing with a local machine and welding shop to come up with parts. Sold the bike to a collector who fell in love with it at first sight. He got an excellent price and I got more room in my garage.

Interesting, the only Hawk I knew of was the old one with the automatic like the trail 90, which wasn’t real sexy.

My first bike was a ‘78 Honda Hawk like the one below.

I'm a Suzuki guy myself but that is a sharp looking Hawk!

That’s it! I bet that was a dang good bike.

I didn't have a Honda Hawk, I had a Honda Nighthawk 650. Like this one:

That was a long time ago.

Now the 650 Nighthawk (CB650SC) was a great bike.

I had a chance to get one very low mileage, in pristine shape, but just didn't have the room to keep it.

Putting a few hundred miles on it was a pleasure.

I should have shoehorned it in; it was a great UJM.

The Honda Hawk GT (NT650) was another great 'Hawk' in the Honda aviary.

It looked more 'performance' than it rode, but it was still a great bike.

It certainly was. Within weeks of buying it, I rode it from L.A. to Lodi to attend my grandfather’s funeral, then on to San Jose to visit a friend, then back home to L.A. I was all of 20 years old at the time — it was one of the greatest experiences of my life up to that point.

And, yes, Honda did offer an automatic version of this bike.
