Is there a mobile friendly version of the forum? - DewGuy - 06-26-2025

Is there a mobile friendly version of the forum or better yet an Android App?

From AI,

Yes, there is a MyBB app, but it's not an official one maintained by the MyBB team. MyBB Mobile is an Android app boilerplate that forum owners can use to create their own custom apps for their forums. There is also a separate app called "mybb by myBlueboard" which is an all-in-one management app for bands, choirs, and orchestras, but it's not related to the forum software.

I wonder if OWC will create a mobile App. Thanks for the info.

I'm sure they are coding up the mobile app for the 86 people who used the old forum as we speak.

Well, it might help to encourage more people to make use of the forum as a lot of web traffic these days is on mobile.

Tapatalk is the go to mobile app that most people use for mobile forum access. It's quite popular and it is what I generally recommend to people looking for a mobile solution. Yes it does support MyBB.

Honestly, the forum actually scales correctly on Safari on iOS18.3. The type is small but legible and usable with my readers on a standard size iPhone at standard resolution. That's about all you can ask for. "Not working" would be defined as scaling doesn't happen correctly causing part of the screen to appear off screen, requiring scrolling...or just inaccessible.

The chance of anyone at OWC creating a mobile friendly version themselves is slim to none. They chose one of the easiest off the shelf solutions for the new forum. The they did us a huge favor of jumping through 1000 hoops to import all of the old Forum history for us. There is now way they are going to pay someone to code a custom mobile solution since it does "work" and there are apps already out there to make it more friendly.

I can access the forum on my Android phone using Firefox, but it's so small that I have to enlarge it quite a lot to be able to see it, let alone read anything. Makes for a lot of scrolling and difficulty in reading or posting.

I've only had a mobile phone for about a year and I'm still learning about a lot of things and I didn't know about Tapatalk. Thanks.

Do I understand this correctly, that OWC has to install a plugin and join the Tapatalk network for us to be able to use Tapatalk with the new forum? If that's done then we have to create a Tapatalk account and link it to our forum account to be able to access the forum? Thanks.

Yes, someone at OWC would need to install the Tapatalk plugin. So in a sense that makes it easier. But in the same way that Apple constantly releases updates with new features, MyBB will do the same. Then that cascades down to individual plugins needing updates as well. Most of these updates have to do with staying a step ahead of hackers. Online forums and blogs are huge targets for hackers that are mostly just trying to post links to nefarious sites hoping to game the algorithms that drive search engines.

It takes a ton of continuous work to maintain a forum such as this and I am grateful that it's here again, even if it's less than perfect.

Also android- I had to switch to desktop mode, because it was tiny in mobile view, and it ended up being too sluggish to bother with for whatever reason.
