In the wake of last November’s election, many Democrats blamed low turnout for Kamala Harris’s defeat.
It wasn’t entirely without reason, as turnout dropped in Democratic areas, but many months later it is clear the blame was misplaced.
Newly available data, based on authoritative voter turnout records, suggests that if anything, President Trump would have done even better if everyone had voted.
The new data, including a new study from Pew Research released Thursday, instead offers a more dispiriting explanation for Democrats: Young, nonwhite and irregular voters defected by the millions to Mr. Trump, costing Ms. Harris both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
The findings suggest that Mr. Trump’s brand of conservative populism once again turned politics-as-usual upside down, as his gains among disengaged voters deprived Democrats of their traditional advantage with this group, who are disproportionately young and nonwhite.

Casey in Pennsylvania. Lost by 0.22 percentage points, or about 16,000 out of 6.8 million votes cast. Led in the polls most of the race.

After the oddly timed 1st Presidential Debate in June (usually these didn't happen until after the Conventions were done and the nominees officially settled) the polls for Democratic candidates nationwide plummetted and we were looking at a Republican 230 seat house majority, approaching 60 senate seats, and 55% win for the convicted felon.
Given Joe's subsequent public performances he was clearly not up to the task of rallying or communicating effectively with the public to resuscitate his candidacy. It's a shame that his Presidency was such a success that it lead him and his inner circle to think he was up to running for a second term; there ought to have been an open primary in which all the Democratic candidates could have gotten out in the open in front of people and made their cases and demonstrated that it's a party concerned with not just edge gender cases and ivory tower elitism but actually improving not just those lots but nearly everyone elses' except con artists, oligarchs, and torture fetishists.

That column looks like an gratin of the study, and I think the study is a misinterpretation of the data. The issue isn’t just getting people out the door to vote; the issue is giving people something they want to vote for. The Democrats utterly failed at that, and they’ve been failing of it for years, unfortunately.
