Any reason to partition - Go To Top - 03-13-2007 an external 250. Will just use for backups and storage. (G4 PB17, 60HD) Re: Any reason to partition - jdc - 03-13-2007 none that i can think of Yes... - RAMd®d - 03-13-2007 If you use DiskWarrior or Drive Genius, etc... You can make a small Rescue partition (5G or so), and boot from it much faster than to booting from a CD. I do this for every HD that has an OS. Very handy, a big time saver. Of course, if there is a mechanical problem, it would affect both partitions. And there could be a time that the directory or something is so fouled up the HD won't mount, or you can't boot into even the Rescue partition. Then you *have* to use the CD. But to do some routine maintenance or run Disk Utility to repair a disk (not permissions) a Rescue partition is very handy. Other than that, I wouldn't bother partitioning for any other reason. Re: Any reason to partition - incognegro - 03-13-2007 not unless you want to mirror one to the other for an extra level of backup, or if you want to alternate in case you need to go back a day to a previously saved version of something. Re: Yes... - Go To Top - 03-13-2007 Do I format with HFS+ Journaled or non journaled? tia Re: Any reason to partition - Zoidberg - 03-13-2007 Nope. Re: Any reason to partition - yeoman - 03-13-2007 Yep. stf Re: Any reason to partition - MikeF - 03-13-2007 I once read that the majority of drive problems is because the directory gets hosed. Having multiple partitions will sometimes save those partitions if one directory gets messed up. World of Warcraft (the only thing that I can remember that was common and used by both kids) messed up both their machines -- multiple partitions saved all their school stuff from the main partition that had to have the OS reinstalled. On both machines... Or it was just incredible bad luck... |
