What do I do with html bookmarks file? - spearmint - 03-21-2007

I saved Firefox bookmarks to Desktop. Trashed all of Firefox. Reinstalled 2.0. Now how do I install html file of bookmarks? "Import" requires browser type.

Move the file to /Users/spearmint/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/ where xxxxxxxx is some random string.

Caveat: your actual FireFox/Profiles folder may exist in another location.

I found all of the above but where do I insert file? Also how do I get these to kick in?

With Firefox not open.
Copy it to the same location as the current Bookmarks file, click replace. If all goes well delete the old file.

And if all else fails, just keep the HTML bookmark document on your desktop and open the sites from there, rebookmarking them in 2.0. Frankly, I've never had much luck doing it the "right way", but I've always managed to retain them all.

Try searching for "Profiles" in your home directory.
If there is more than one, then it probably means Mozilla made different ones with the different versions of FireFox you have installed in the past.

Quit FF, and COPY the bookmarks.html file into each of those folders.
One of them is bound to be the current Profiles folder.
